The only word that sprang to mind over and over again as I looked at the work of Mark Vaarwerk was…delicious! His recycled plastic container rings, brooches and bracelets look like little bits of juicy eco-candy!
Besides being some of the most fashionable recycled jewelry pieces I’ve ever seen, I appreciate the duality of the pieces. They are made of the utmost throwaway junk–shampoo bottles, detergent jugs, ketchup bottles, etc. Yet, they are partnered with beautifully polished sterling silver and gold.
Yes, I admit that I still have a yearning for brand new, fresh-outta-the-box things in my life. I know, I know–it’s just aesthetics; but I’m a graphic designer, an illustrator–these things are part of my business and they matter to me.
So, if you’d like the best of both worlds, head on over to Mr. Varwerk’s site and find your very own favorite guilty pleasure. It’ll only hurt a little bit.
Featuring artistic items made from recycled materials and a creative heart. Artists, crafters & companies are welcome to submit their items.

I went to the Mr. Varwerk site and the fact that some of that jewelry is made of garbage bags is amazing!

That man is so creative to be able to actually be able to take trash and turn it into treasure. I love his work it’s absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing with us I’m going to have to show this to Chezlin.
