I’ve posted about recycled can art before. Being from a state that participates in a bottle deposit program, I appreciate artists’ work which uses the colorful pop cans that I normally turn in for recycling.
When I first saw Modern Vintage’s 51% metal can Recycled bangles, I was worried about the resin binding them together. That and the price tag seemed a little steep ($100 per bangle). But Stefania Panfili, the artist, has thoughtfully included a page on her site explaining that she uses Luxane, “a state-of-the-art California-made polyurethane resin which meets California’s stringent environmental requirements” and is very ecologically friendly. So that fact, combined with the realization that there is true workmanship that goes into each bangle made me take a closer look.
Stefania casts the molds herself, embedding slices of cans in eye-popping colors and patterns. The sleek finishes of the cans are showcased well inside the clear resin. And notice that the “Please Recycle” message from the side of the cans has been featured between the slices. What a nice touch!

Speaking of recycled bikes turned into art….
Mitchell Metalworx is a fantastic site I Stumbled across this morning. The artist, Steve Mitchell, works exclusively with recycled bike parts, turning them into some truly unique art sculptures. His work is appealing to both men and women, youth and adults.
Featuring artistic items made from recycled materials and a creative heart. Artists, crafters & companies are welcome to submit their items.
